For 10 years Aaron Peterson has been satisfying clients throughout the world with stories and images of the people and places of his beloved Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Peterson earned his BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in Chinese Language & Literature and East Asian Studies, a feat he describes as a long story. While Peterson’s degree appears seemingly unrelated to his career as a freelance travel writer and photographer, it reflects his passion for language. Self-taught, Peterson has learned to capture the U.P.’s vast and unpredictable landscape and marry the written word to his photographs. The force of the U.P. and the Great Lakes, as well as the spirited people that live here, remain a constant inspiration for Peterson’s work.
Peterson and his family live close to the land on an old Finnish homestead near the village of Chatham in Alger County. He offers editorial, commercial and stock photography, and he now has a growing line of fine prints, poster and bookmarks. Peterson has freelanced for such publications as National Geographic Traveler, Cabela’s and Midwest Living.
